Can You Have Milk on the Carnivore Diet?

Milk is an animal product; therefore, you are allowed to drink milk on the Carnivore diet. But most Carnivores avoid it as it contains natural sugar and carbohydrates.

Dr. Paul Saladino:
“Milk can be a controversial topic on the Carnivore Diet due to its carbohydrate content. While some people include raw, full-fat milk in moderation, others avoid it to maintain stricter adherence to zero-carb principles.”
There are many variations of the carnivore diet, some don’t even allow coffee or spices, while other carnivore principals allow coffee, spices, and milk. Since dairy is from an animal, and thee carnivore diet includes anything that comes from an animal (meat, eggs, tallow, ghee, and butter) then diary (milk) is also allowed.
However, it’s important to note that some variations of the carnivore diet may exclude milk due to the carbs. So to each their own!
If you want this reciep to be lower in carbs, you can replace the milk powder with heavy cream powder. THe macros will be much higher (calories and fat) but the carb content will be lower. It’s up to you!

Recipe

Yields 5-6 buns / rolls

Ingredients:
– 3 eggs
– 1 1/2 cups of grass-fed goat milk powder (or regular milk powder, but goat milk is easier to digest) – See notes above for a lower carb option / substitute.
– 1 Tbsp of aluminum free baking powder

Method:
Whisk eggs in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the baking powder and milk powder then gradually add 1/2 cup at a time to the whisked eggs while you stir. The batter should have a raw “sourdough” consistency. Wet your hands with water before rolling each into a ball and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven at 350 F for 11-13 minutes or until you see the tops begin to brown.
