Growing up, we never really celebrated Halloween other than dress up (we were only allowed to have “nice” un-scary costumes) and get free candy from our neighbors. No decorations or halloween food. Now almost 29, I guess you can say this “bloody” apple was bound to happen…..I still don’t celebrate as much and honestly can’t stand scary movies. This apple is probably as scary as I will get with food, but I just had to! (And y’all know it’s healthy…and you only need 4 ingredients!)
Ingredients:
Apple(s) of choice (with stems)
Coconut butter (no exact measurements)
1/2 cup steamed, chopped beets
1/2 cup hot water
1 tsp Vital Proteins gelatin
Directions:
1. Freeze apple(s)
2. Melt coconut butter (you can reserve any unused melted coconut butter and it will harden again so don’t worry about melting too much)
3. Remove apple(s) from freezer and, while holding the apple by the stem, coat with coconut butter and place on a plate with wax paper and put in freezer for 5 minutes. Remove from freezer and repeat this step one more time for a whiter thicker coating and place back in freezer while preparing your “blood.”
4. Puree steamed beets with hot water. Add Vital Proteins gelatin to puree and blend one more time.
5. Remove apple(s) from freezer and coat with blood. *Apple(s) must be cold to allow beet puree to solidify quick (the gelatin makes this happen). Place back in freezer for 5 minutes for “blood” to completely firm. Store in refrigerator until ready to consume. See ya the gram!
