ARTICHOKE BENEFITS & DIY artichoke tea

STOMACH SPASMS
Certain compounds in artichokes contain antispasmodic properties which have been shown to help halt muscle spasms common with IBS. (study)

DIGESTIVE HEALTH
It’s been shown to help promote friendly gut bacteria and reduce the risk of certain bowel cancers, and alleviating constipation and diarrhea. (study)

Artichoke extract has also been shown in studies to provide relief from indigestion, bloating, nausea, and heartburn. (study)

CHOLESTEROL
Artichoke leaf extract can lower “bad” cholesterol and increase “good” cholesterol cholesterol levels. (study)

LIVER HEALTH
Artichokes have been shown to protect you from liver damage and even promote the growth of new tissue! (study)

For the tea, wash a fresh artichoke, boil in enough water to cover the artichoke until the artichoke is tender (time will vary depending on size). Remove the artichoke (and save for eating) and pour out the water it was boiled in. It can have a laxative effect the next day so be aware.
