CBD. It’s starting to make it’s way around these days, but I’be been a CBD advocate even before all the hype. Why? Well, it’s an AMAZING way to help a varieties of health issues. But first. let’s take a quick look at what it is exactly.
What is CBD?
CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, the primary non-psychoactive component of the plant Cannabis Sativa (marijuana). However, many confuse it with THC (the component of the marijuana plant that does have psychoactive affects and is what makes people “high”).
CBD vs THC
Both compounds have health benefits: THC has antispasmodic, analgesic, anti-tremor, anti-inflammatory, and can stimulate the appatitte. CBD also has anti-inflammatory benefits as well as anticonvulsant. antipsychotic, and neuroprotective properties.
THC is often limited for medical use because of it’s psychoactive side effects, but since CBD does not affect the mind in that way, it’s making leaps and bounds through the health and wellness industry!
THC has also been known to cause anxiety and even paranoia in some, however CBD actually works to counteract those side effects!
Proven Benefits of CBD
Relieves Pain and Inflammation, Helps MS
One of the most known benefits of CBD is it’s natural pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. This study found that CBD significantly suppressed chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain in rodents spinal cords.
Multiple Sclerosis
A 2007 meta-analysis conducted in Canada, the combination of CBD and THC buccal spray was found to be effective in treating neuropathic pain in multiple sclerosis!
Reduces Anxiety
We all have anxiety, am I right? Some more than other and certain weeks may be more stressful due to our busy schedules, work, school, relationships, financial situations, and simply the demand to meet our daily needs to survive. Several studies have shown Cannabidiol reduces anxiety in patients with social anxiety disorders. Researchers also suggest that it may also be effective for panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Helps to Fight Cancer
I know, it’s a pretty bold statement to say that CBD can help fight cancer….but don’t take my word for it. Several scientific reports demonstrate that CBD contains pro-apoptotic effects that inhibit cancer cell migration, adhesion and invasion. This study also suggests that cannabidiol inhibited the growth of certain breast tumors.
In addition to fighting bread cancer cells, reserch also suggests that CBD can be used to inhibit the growth of lung and colon cancer cells, as well as a treatment for leukemia.
Relieves Nausea
Over 80 cannabinoid compounds found in marijuana, both TCH and CBD help rid nausea and vomiting.
Seizures, Neurological Disorders, and Muscle Spasms
I get asked all the time on my Instagram about neurological disorders. This is not something I have experienced so therefore I have not put that much time into the research for myself, however many studies have been performed and proven that CBD can help with seizures and even schizophrenia and dystonia (muscles spasms).
Does CBD show up on Drug tests?
Another common questions I get asked via Instagram is if CBD will show up on a drug test since may have to take them for work, school, etc. Well, if the CBD you are consuming is 100% THC free, then you shouldn’t be worried. Drug tests are looking to find THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). So when choosing a CBD product, choose carefully and some packaging may even say “THC Free.” If you are really concerned, call the company yourself and ask. They should know right away and give you a quick answer….and if they don’t know or don’t seem 100% sure, that’s a clear sign to look for another brand. If you are scheduled to take a drug test and are still concerned, call the company that performs the test (or have a friend do it for you! haha) and just ask an anonymous question if CBD is a concern. We are all humans and most know what CBD is and what it’s used for / the health benefits so people on the other end should hopefully understand where you are coming from and why you may be consuming it.
