I’m such a sucker for spinach artichoke dip, aren’t you? It’s the perfect Game Day snack, party platter, or your Wednesday night in catching up on Netflix! But one thing is for sure, if you buy those pre-made tubs at the store, you will most likely see ingredients like these….
Here’s Cedars “all natural” version:
Yogurt (Grade A Pasteurized Skim Milk, Cream, Milk Protein Concentrate, Food Starch, Gelatin, Pectin, Cultures (Streptococcus Thermophilus, Lactobacillus Delbrueckii Sub Sp. Bulgarious, Lactobacillus Paracasei, Propionibacterium Freudenreichii Shermanii)), Water Chestnuts, Spinach, Mayonnaise (Soybean Oil, Egg Yolks, Distilled Vinegar, Water, Sugar, Salt, Cider Vinegar, Spices), Seasoning Mix (Maltodextrin, Potato Starch, Salt, Yeast Extract, Onion Powder, Tomato Powder, Soybean Oil, Spices), Dehydrated Vegetables (Carrots, Tomato, Celery, Cabbage, Leeks), Garlic, Celery Salt, Sea Salt, Natamycin.
Contains Milk, Soy and Eggs.
Really? Don’t be fooled by the packaging or fancy words on the tub. Some of their organic hummus is actually good, but just goes to show that just because a company produces a good item, does NOT mean you can trust ALL their items. Always check!
Tostitos may even be worse! Why? Um, for starters it’s not even refrigerated, though you might want to buy it to stash in your emergency pantry…it will probably last a long time! But yes, it contains – M S G – (is that still even allowed anymore?)
Water, Spinach, Sunflower Oil and/or Canola Oil, Red Bell Peppers, Water Chestnuts, Whey Protein Concentrate and Less than 2% of the Following: Onions, Modified Tapioca and Corn Starch, Salt, Sugar, Vinegar, Garlic Powder, Lactic Acid, Natural Flavor, Xanthan Gum, DATEM, Torula Yeast Extract, Monosodium Glutamate, and Citric Acid.
I won’t go into the many others, but my point is – make your own! You’ll not only save yourself health issues, but some dough! $$$

Ok, now let’s chow! Ciao!
Dip Ingredients:
1 medium head of cauliflower
2-3 Tbsp of paleo, vegan, or whole 30 approved mayo of choice
2 garlic cloves
1-2 tsp onion powder
Sea salt to taste
1/2 cup water chestnuts (preferably from frozen, not canned if you can find them in the frozen section. They have no preservatives)
1/2 cup artichoke hearts (again, preferably from frozen but canned will also work)
1, 16 oz pack of frozen spinach
Directions:
1. Prepare 1 recipe of my grain/nut free paleo rolls and bake all dough as one ball for about 40 minutes at 350 F or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Steam cauliflower until soft then puree until smooth. Do not add water.
-
Cut chestnuts and artichokes into smaller pieces if needed, then fold into cauliflower mixture.
-
Thaw spinach (I placed my bag in the fridge the night before to thaw naturally, I don’t use the microwave), squeeze out any excess water then mix it in along with your other ingredients.
*Option to serve chilled or warmed inside your homemade bread bowl!
